Who is Hindu?? - You Me or Them?

Lord Krishna Is Not "Hindu", & He Did Not Come To Make Us "Hindus"
If you are of western descent, have you ever gone to India and wanted to visit a temple and be turned away because you are not recognized as a "Hindu" , whatever that means ?
How many times did Srila Prabhupada say that " Krishna is not a Hindu god", but that he is the seed giving Father of every living entity. Krishna is the Father of Christ. Krishna is the Allah that is Akbar.
Lord Krishna did not come to turn us into "Hindus". He came to teach us that we are His eternal servants and that the way to realize this and achieve pure love of God is to chant the Hare Krishna mantra and engage in devotional service by associating with His devotees
Hindu is a sectarian in-the-box term for people ignorant of the concept of sanatana dharma, which means that the soul is an eternal servant of Lord Krishna. "Hindu" is an erroneous, confusing term made up by Muslims used to refer to people by their geographical proximity ie. those who live east of the Sindhu / Indus River, which none of us westerners were. "Hindu" is a vague and divisive material designation for people ignorant of Vedic culture / Vaisnavism. Why would a person born in India, who knows Lord Krishna call themselves by the concocted "Hindu" name given to them by people who came to destroy their temples and Deities ?!?
Everytime I give a high school or college class on " Introduction to Hinduism " I start with dispelling the "Hindu" myth explaining this is a made word made up by Muslims that has nothing to do with the Vedic scriptures. Then why do the people of India still misidentify themselves with this ignorance ?
Though several temples in Kerala have signs saying that non-Hindus are denied entry, few of them enforce it as strictly as the Guruvayur temple, which insists on following its distinct traditions. 'Only Orthodox Hindus are allowed', reads a signboard hanging from the Lion's Gate of the Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri. This banning is not scriptural at all but are temple politics sometimes due to those under the influence of racism
We are all foreigners in this material world. Pujaris of Vedic temples should wake up, get up to speed and find out about Srila Prabhupada and how he shared their Vedic ( Hindu ) culture to billions of people all over the world ! There is no one in history that has done as much as him to preserve India's original Vaisnava culture, so why would they offend his followers that are protecting, preserving and promoting their culture by banning them ? I am not worthy of entering into the banned temples, but many Vaisnavas and Vaisnavis I know certainly are, regardless of their skin color, race, or spiritual institution.

विष्णुस्मरण दास Why crying over such display in puri temple. More or less such racisicm prevail even in many Iskcon temple. One should not get disturb of all such nonsense. Do bhakti quietly and become qualified devotee of Jagannath, so that he eagerly come out of his temple and embrace you.

Gaura Das I appreciate your mood of qualifying ourselves for Bhakti. Srila Prabhupada did not remain quiet when it came to preaching Krsna conscious, whether his disciples were "Hindus" or not. He used it as a preaching platform out of his love and compassion for the masses of people to destroy misconceptions. That is the difference between Srila Prabhupada and the majority of gurus in India. He could have done his "Bhakti quietly" at the Radha Damodara temple, but instead travelled the world 14 times over at the old age of 69 - 82 to save you and me. He was constantly taking on all opposition like a World Champion Prize Fighter.
Lord Krishna did not tell Arjuna to do bhakti quietly on his chariot nor did Lord Rama tell Hanuman to just chant Lord Rama's name.
Srila Prabhupada was not just an impersonal "Om Shanti" Guru. He fought Maya to the very end

विष्णुस्मरण दास
विष्णुस्मरण दास Before he start his journey, he spent years..... And then Jagannath appeared on his call and gave darshan to everyone. Jagannath is not anybody servant to follow thr order to give darshan according to caste, religion etc. It's his free will and this free will is his causeles mercy. By complainig rule of puri temple we are limiting Jagannath. If we believe everything happening good or bad is by his mercy then we should accept this external situation also. When time come he will change and that to if he wishes. Jagannath has devotee from all sections of society this rule don't limit them from worshiping. Radhe Radhe.

Gaura Das Maybe also worried that the Deity may be in danger by uncultured people, but one must have discression as the better part of valour. Obviously devotees who are inundating the planet with Bhagavad Gitas and Bhagavatams are not a threat to their Deities !?!

Radhe Govinda Dasa
Radhe Govinda Dasa Lord Caitanya didn't ask the Jagannatha Puri temple authorities to allow His "non-Hindu" followers to enter the temple, although He was the Lord and Master of then Puri king Maharaja Prataparudra, and although one of His prominent followers was Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya, who was the chief pandita of king's court, the most learned man in India, and a guru of some 60,000 disciples.
However, His loving Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada insisted that western devotees be allowed to enter and have a darsana of Lord Jagannatha so we follow his desire and keep requesting on his behalf.
I know of examples of blonde, blue-eyed westerners who entered Jagannatha temple after they have bribed Puri pandas sufficiently. Some entered in hiding, e.g Bhakti Tirtha Swami and bhakta George Harrison. And yet again, some, although "Hindus" by birth, like Lokanath Swami, were denied entry due to their affiliation with ISKCON.
There is a prophecy that Lord Jagannatha will leave the Puri temple with white-skinned devotees who will take Him away by force, armed with weapons and the (holy) names. Maybe Puri pandas are afraid of that too.:)

Gaura Das Great points Radhe Govinda Dasa. Thank you . It goes to show you that "Bucks are the Basis" even for the "Hindu" pandas, unfortunately. Money is the honey and they forget your skin color if you have enough Rupees. Hare Rupee Hare Rupee, Rupee Rupee Hare Hare is the mantra for some
An old saying from the 80's still relevant today : BUCKS are the BASIS > MANAGEMENT is the ESSENCE > PURITY is a FARCE > FUTILITY is the principle.
Where did you hear that story that George Harrison was able to enter ? I heard that BTS did but never George Harrison.

Radhe Govinda Dasa I read BTS testimony in 1 London Ratha Yatra magazine. I still have it, and plan to scan it. I believe I've heard about George from Kavicandra Swami (not sure though).

Sitalatma Das
Sitalatma Das A few months ago, after another altercation with Jagannatha Temple's guards, there was an article by a devotee who is familiar with many pandas there and he said they don't mind ISKCON devotees being admitted but the decision must come from Lord Jagannath Himself. There's a precedent when one Muslim saint was turned away but then pandas had to search for him and carry him on a palanquin into the temple. Nothing happens without Jagannath's permission there, all the "racism" and "casteism" is approved.
Another thing is that Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was Krishna Himself but He is not the same personality as Lord Jagannath.
Srila Prabhupada made the argument that ISKCON devotees are purified enough to be admitted into the temple but, as a whole - are we really that pure? We failed to live up to Prabhupada's expectations in many different ways - in our divorces, in our eating non-prasada, in our infighting, in our deviations. We all share this burden, we are all made of the same cloth, it's our collective karma as members of Prabhupada's gotra. Plus, practically speaking, we can't expect pandas to differentiate between strictly following devotees and those who stop in Bangkok for rest and recreation every time they visit India.
Ultimately - one's gross body is not a random thing but a product of one's consciousness. Members of Lord Jagannath's gotra do not get white bodies - "westerner" being a product of a different kind of consciousness.
